MANAMA, 4 October 2003 — Terrorists threw Molotov cocktails into a police bus, wounding five officers, the government-controlled press reported yesterday.
One of the wounded policemen is in a “very critical condition” in hospital after the Thursday night attack, an Interior Ministry spokesman was quoted by the Bahrain Tribune as saying.
He reported no arrests but said the attack was being investigated.
“Unidentified terrorists” lobbed Molotov cocktails into the bus as it was driving through Sitra, a large town about 7.5 kilometers southeast of Manama, about 10 p.m. local time (1900 GMT), another Interior Ministry spokesman said, according to the official Bahrain News Agency.
The bus was carrying 12 policemen when it was attacked in front of the Ibn Al-Nafees Primary School for Boys, the Gulf Daily News reported.
Apart from the critically injured policeman, the other wounded received severe burns, the paper said.
The reports, which could not confirmed with government officials as yesterday was the weekend, gave no indication of who the attackers might be.
Bahrain has arrested five Bahrainis this year for allegedly planning “terrorist” attacks. Bahrain hosts the base of the US Navy’s 5th Fleet.
