JEDDAH, 10 October 2003 — Members of the Pakistani community should unite and work for the progress and prosperity of their country and the host country, Consul General Masood Akhtar said at a meeting with Pakistanis at the Consulate General here on Wednesday.

They should rise above party affiliations and live together as Pakistanis, Masood said.

The consul general, who assumed charge recently, said he wanted to see more interaction between the community members and the consulate.

He also asked the community for suggestions for the improvement of services provided by the consulate.

The consul general said each member of the Pakistani community was an ambassador of his country here and should work hard and behave accordingly.

Masood hailed the role of overseas Pakistanis in overcoming crises in Pakistan.

The consul general said he was trying to create a more congenial atmosphere in the consulate so that community members would feel able to visit the consulate whenever they have problems.

But he said Pakistanis should not do anything which could embarrass the consulate and give their country a bad name.
