JEDDAH, 10 October 2003 — Action continued in the first JSMG Basketball Tournament in Cooperation with Almajal Servicemaster sponsored by Tharwat Al-Gharbia Al-Haditha.
Mr. Suave won their debut game against Alghomri with the help of some sweet shooting by Randy Mata 24 and Tom Salcedo 21. Their combined force subdued the winless Alghomri, for a final 79-73 outcome. Ronatay had 18 and Silagpo 17 for the losers.
Sawary 2-Tharwat ended its losing streak by beating Sawary Snickers 64-52. Topscoring for Tharwat was Zorilla (18) and Mon Bautista (17). The Snickers missed the scoring efforts of their center, Rodriguez which Tharwat took advantage by drivng to the hoops effortlessly. Garcia had 11 for the losing effort.
In the main game, FedEx Express showed their supremacy over the Moda Defenders in a lopsided 104-71 win. Five FedEx players scored in double figures led by Ibno 18, Bautista 16, Collado 16, Jouaquin 13 and Ronquillo 10. Ibno Jordan of Jolo Sulu showed his all around game by scoring cleanly and passing clinically to his teammates. It’s the FedEx 3 straight win after an opening loss to the league leading Ajmajal team. For Moda Defenders Omar 26, Muncal 18 and Tanjoco 15 stood out.
In the Inter-Company Division, Cabahug grabbed 19 points and their twin towers Arquerro and Avengonzado played tight defense while Talastas contibuted 11 to lead Arab News team past The Expert 77-69. The expert enjoyed a 8-point lead as at one stage courtesy of Simon. In the 40 Above category, Jojo Echavez had 28 points for Saudia City to put them in the winning column with an easy 81-66 win over the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies had no answer to the spitfire Echavez. Also helping Echavez in the outside sniping of Cris Magno, who had 11. Tula had 18, Dollentas 17 and Valle 10 points.
The Intercessor defeated Alzaman 81-60, topscoring for the winners was Caba with 27 and Manza 11. For Alzaman Cerena 14, Belarmino 10 and Ignacio 10 stood out. The loss was the 4th for Alzaman.
