CAIRO, 10 October 2003 — Egyptian and Kuwaiti stock markets this week reported significant increases, as other regional markets showed mixed results.
The Egyptian bourse recorded a spectacular increase. The CASE-30 index closed yesterday at 1,046.13 points, against 941.43 one week ago, up 11.1 percent. The Kuwaiti stock market, the second largest Arab market in terms of capitalization, closed Wednesday at 4,501.6 points, compared to 4,328.8 points a week before, increasing 4 percent. In Bahrain, the BSE index progressed 4.9 percent, closing yesterday at 2,299.33 points, against 2,190.45 points the week before. Qatar’s market closed yesterday with an increase of 1.4 percent at 663.26 points against 654.03.
Oman’s MSM index finished yesterday at 258.12 points against 257.3 points the week before. In the United Arab Emirates, the NBAD index closed yesterday at 4,368.1 points compared to 4,355.60 points the preceding week. In Saudi Arabia, the Tadawul All-Shares Index (TASI), which has the largest capitalization in the Arab world, was little changed. It dropped yesterday to 4,335.23 points from 4,355.18, a loss of 0.4 percent.
