JEDDAH, 14 October 2003 — Police in south Jeddah have recorded a dramatic increase in armed robbery. Sources told Al-Madinah newspaper that most armed robbers were of African nationality.
The local press recently reported three robberies in stores in south Jeddah. Last week on the Makkah Road robbers escaped with SR2,700 and injured two workers, while in another incident three armed men held up a 24-hour store early in the morning and escaped with the cash register.
