SRINAGAR, 14 October 2003 — Six militants and two civilians were killed overnight in separatist violence in Indian-administered Kashmir, police said yesterday.
Police said three rebels were killed after they crossed the de facto border with Pakistan into the southern Poonch district late Sunday.
A civilian and an army major were also injured in the gunfight in Gagrian village.
Two more rebels were shot dead in the neighboring district of Rajouri by troops of the paramilitary Border Security Force.
Another rebel, identified as a Pakistani, was killed by the army in the northwestern Kupwara district, police said.
In the southern Udhampur district, suspected rebels fired rockets at a BSF checkpost in the Mohore area. The attack missed its mark and hit a house, killing a woman and her four-year-old son and injuring two other civilians, police said.
