RIYADH, 17 October 2003 — Capitalizing on its championship experience, the King Abdulaziz Medical City humbled the rookie team of Sultan ibn Abdulaziz Humanitarian City cagers 89-73 at the opening day of the 6th Inter-Hospital Basketball Tournament organized in tandem by HOSTT and the SFHP Housing and Recreation Services Department.
Starting at 3:00 p.m. with a basketball clinic by Nestor Carlos of the FCBR as Part I of the day’s program. The official referees from FCBR and table officials comprising the technical committee including the President Alex Sanchez, secretary-general Jake Floria, Nestor Carlos, Ernie de la Cruz, Muhammad Villamena, Raul Aragon, Chito Solis and many more.
Part II ushered the parade of colors and a brief opening program. Muriel Aquino, a former RP women’s national basketball player for 11 years, who is also the HOSTT over-all chairperson emceed the program. She acknowledged the support of every hospital coordinators/team representatives including : Noel Puno (Dallah); Tina Abarro (Habib); Ernie Gomez (Kingdom); Bong Nebres (KAMC); Gener Geronimo (KFSH); Glenn Viernes (KKUH); Efren Serrano (RKH/PSCC); Hermie Jimenez (SFHP); Eugene Eder (SMH-GAMA); Joey Canillas (SMCH); and Joel Japson/Mike Reaso (SBAHC).
SFHP Recreation Manager Ms. Wafa Al Thumairi delivered her opening remarks. She looked forward to this occasion as the beginning of a great partnership and collaboration in promotion of wholesome, recreational friendly sports competitions.
Last year’s MVP Dr Ivo of the KAMC team, led the oath of sportsmanship; while the declaration of the tournament opening was made by HOSTT Basketball Subcommittee chairman Vic Cardenas of RKH/PSCC. The “best in uniform” decision went to RKH/PSCC, followed by KFSH and SFHP respectively. For the mascot, Habib’s Toni Caliolio and Angelica Abarro was adjudged the “best mascots”. The other matches were played by Habib vs. SMH-GAMA and RKH/PSCC vs KKUH.
