DALLAS, 21 October 2003 — Stu Barnes scored a pair of goals 20 seconds apart and Marty Turco had to make just 11 saves as the Dallas Stars dumped the Minnesota Wild 3-1 on Sunday.
Barnes had scored just 13 times last season but his two quick goals were enough to give Dallas the win, as the Star completely snuffed out the Wild offense.
With forward Marian Gaborik still holding out, the Wild has scored two goals or less in five of their six games to date.
Bill Guerin scored the other goal for the Stars, now 4-2-0 to start the season. Jason Arnott added a pair of assists for the Stars, who scored all three of their goals in a five-minute span in the second period on Manny Fernandez. Christoph Brandner scored the lone goal for the Wild on Minnesota’s second shot of the game in the first period.
Dallas out-shot Minnesota 30-11.
Blackhawks 3 Predators 1
In Chicago, Tuomo Ruutu scored his first NHL goal to help the Blackhawks beat the Nashville Predators 3-1. Jocelyn Thibault made 21 saves for the Hawks. Tyler Arnason and Kyle Calder scored the other Chicago goals. David Legwand scored for the Predators, who were playing their first road game of the season after starting 3-1-0 at home. Chris Mason made 28 saves in his season debut.
Bruins 4 Mighty Ducks 3 (OT)
In Anaheim, Sergei Samsonov scored at 4:08 of overtime to give the Boston Bruins a 4-3 win over the Mighty Ducks.
Mike Knuble had a pair of goals for Boston, while Brian Rolston scored the other goal for the Bruins (3-1-2-0).
Steve Rucchin scored twice, while Vaclav Prospal scored the other Anaheim goal, which still is winless (0-4-0-1). Sergei Fedorov added a pair of assists.
