SYDNEY, 21 October 2003 — Matthew Hayden scored a quickfire unbeaten 101 as Australia raced to a nine-wicket victory over Zimbabwe yesterday with more than a day to spare in the second and final cricket Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The Australians were set 172 runs to win and passed that target from just 29.1 overs to complete a 2-0 series sweep over the gritty but outgunned tourists, who lost for the 11th straight match.
Hayden, 31, scored his 16th Test century and took his total runs for the series to 501 with a majestic innings that came from just 85 balls in 140 minutes and included 11 fours and three sixes.
The left-hander made a world record 380 in the first Test in Perth, which the Australians won by an innings and 175 runs.
Australia lost opener Justin Langer for eight, caught behind by Tatenda Taibu from a Heath Streak off-cutter, but Hayden and first innings century-maker Justin Langer (53 not out) then settled in and played some extravagant strokes.
