SANAA, 23 October 2003 — Yemeni police on Monday arrested a Saudi national suspected of being a member of the Al-Qaeda terrorist network who entered Yemen secretly, a security official said yesterday.

Ghanem Al-Malki was arrested in the border outpost of Haradh after entering Yemen illegally with the help of two Yemenis, the official told Arab News on condition of anonymity.

Yemen’s Interior Ministry ordered Al-Malki and the two Yemenis, who could be imprisoned for a year, to be taken to the capital where they will appear before a judge, according to the source.

Al-Malki was arrested on suspicion of being among Saudi fugitives listed in a warrant issued by Riyadh, the sources said. He is expected to be extradited to the Kingdom under a joint security cooperation pact.
