LOS ANGELES, 24 December 2003 — Looking more like a MASH Unit than an NBA team, the injury-riddled Philadelphia 76ers utilized addition by subtraction to get back to their winning ways.

Glenn Robinson scored a season-high 22 points and rookie Kyle Korver added nine of his 16 in a game-breaking fourth quarter as the banged-up 76ers pulled away to beat the travel-weary Orlando Magic 95-73 on Monday night.

“Everyone has been pitching in and putting a little in and helping out. That’s what this team has been doing all year,” said Robinson, who was sidelined for 18 games with an ankle sprain. “That’s what we need to do in order to win ball games. Everyone has to contribute.”

Eric Snow had 14 points and 14 assist for Philadelphia, which stopped a two-game losing streak.

Aaron McKie finished with 14 points as well before leaving with a hamstring injury in the third quarter.

The 76ers, (14-14), moved back into a three-way tie for first place in the Atlantic Division despite an injury-depleted lineup that left them with just nine players.

Besides losing injured starters Allen Iverson and center Marc Jackson, starting forward Derrick Coleman was scratched with a knee strain; forward Kenny Thomas left in the first quarter with the flu.

“Kenny was sick before the game and it just caught up with him during the course of the game. And then Derrick’s problem with the knee right before the game,” 76ers coach Randy Ayers said.

“But you’ve got to keep your bench ready to play and they have to produce when they come in. I give our, those guys a lot of credit. They came in and did what they had to do.”

Without its key players, the 76ers carried a 70-64 cushion after three-quarters. They opened the fourth frame with a 23-3 surge and coasted to the victory.

Tracy McGrady tallied 20 points, but went scoreless in the fourth quarter when the Magic were outscored 25-9, to have their season-high three-game winning streak severed.

“It was one of those nights when you come out with a lot of energy and the effort was there but you just can’t make any shots,” said McGrady referring to the Magic’s dismal 33 percent field goal shooting.

“We have been playing so well that we just knew it was going to end soon. We had a bad game coming our way and I think we played a tired game. You could see it in our body language and in our shots. You try everything in the book to try to come out of it but nothing works.”

Nuggets 106 Grizzlies 99

Voshon Lenard scored 24 points while Andre Miller had 21 points and 10 assists, leading the hosts Nuggets past the feisty Grizzlies. Brazil’s Nene had 16 points and Carmelo Anthony added 15 as Denver (17-11) matched their entire victory total of last season.

The Grizzlies sliced a nine-point fourth quarter deficit to 101-97 after James Posey made 1-of-2 free throws with 1:25 left. But Miller hit two free throws and Anthony added the clinching basket on an ally-oop dunk with 24 seconds left.

Spaniard Pau Gasol had 24 points and 14 rebounds to pace Memphis. Posey scored 20 points and Shane Battier finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Jazz 92 Bulls 80

Russian Andrei Kirilenko collected 26 points and a career-best 16 rebounds to lead the road-weary Jazz past the Bulls for the 11th time in the last 12 meetings.

DeShawn Stevenson scored 18 points, while Matt Harpring added 15 points and 14 rebounds for Utah, which finished 3-3 on its six-game road trip. Spaniard Carlos Arroyo contributed 14 points and eight assists.

Kendall Gill scored a team-high 13 points while Jerome Williams had 12 points and 11 rebounds in Chicago’s third straight loss.
