KARACHI, 25 December 2003 — Fourteen candidates from various political parties filed nomination papers on Tuesday with the provincial election commissioner for the by-election for a general seat of the Senate, which fell vacant following the death of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal chief Maulana Shah Ahmed Noorani. Tuesday was the last date to file nomination papers according to the schedule announced by the provincial election commission. According to a spokesman for the election commission, candidates who filed nominations included four from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
