JEDDAH, 26 December 2003 — The 1st JSMG Basketball Tournament held its awarding ceremony last week at the Al-Majal Compound. Prominent personalities from different companies led by Khaled Zaid, Mohammad Mashat & Kamal Bakhsh of Al-Majal Service Master Executives and Philippine Consulate General Labor Attaché Atty. Nasser Munder graced the occasion.
JSMG President Ed Picache thanked their main sponsors Tharwat Al-Gharbia Al-Haditha for Food & Consumer Division and Power Horse Energy Drink, the JSMG official referees led by Ric Lumasag and all the participating team in this tournament for supporting the league.
Nonoy Soliveres of Al-Majal Service Master, Rowel Villegas of Danube-Cali and Bably Mahadi of ABC Trading Est., starred in the JSMG and bagged the Most Valuable Players trophy in each division.
Inter-Commercial Division Champion (Al-Majal Service Master), 1st runner-up (Al-Mashwali), 2nd runner-up (SMSA FedEx), 3rd runner-up (Arab News).
Best Guards — Soliveres & Guinto (Al-Majal), Best Forwards — Alex Carpio (Al-Majal) & Consignado (Al-Mashwali), Best Center — Anthony Manguerra (Al-Mashwali), Best Coach — Rolly Mendoza (Al-Majal).
In the Inter-Supermarket division, Champion (Danube-Cali), 1st runner-up (Daawat-Sarawat), 2nd runner-up (Giant Store), 3rd runner-up (Bin Dawood). Best Guards — Villegas & Banaag (Danube-Cali), Best Forwards — de Castro & Valencia (Daawat-Sarawat), Best Center — Alfonso (Danube-Cali), Best Coach — Peng Domingo (Danube-Cali).
In the 40's division, Champion (ABC Trading Est.), 1st runner-up (WRJ Cargo), 2nd runner-up (Al-Ghomri), 3rd runner-up (Top 40). Best Guards — Cortez & Bably Mahadi (ABC Trading Est.), Best Forwards — Mangune & Balagtas (WRJ Cargo), Best Center — Salam Idjirani(ABC Trading Est.), Best Coach — Boy Corsega (ABC Trading Est.). Meanwhile, JSMG officials announced after the ceremony that there will be a 2nd JSMG Basketball Tournament probably this coming January and it will be sponsored by Power Horse Energy Drink.
