Portland had dropped its first 10 road games this season, but became the last team in the NBA to win away from home courtesy of a stingy defense and superior rebounding in the fourth quarter.
Zach Randolph added 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who held a 44-28 edge on the boards.
Jeff McInnis chipped in 13 points for Portland, who handed the Nets just their third loss in the last 12 games.
Richard Jefferson scored 24 points for New Jersey, while Kenyon Martin contributed 19 points and Jason Kidd added 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

In Indianapolis, Jermaine O’Neal had 20 points and 13 rebounds to help the Indiana Pacers edge the Memphis Grizzlies 94-86.
