RIYADH, 1 January 2004 — In a move coinciding with Sudan’s National Day today, two Riyadh-based firms have launched, in collaboration with the Sudanese Embassy, an insurance scheme for Sudanese expatriates in the Kingdom.

The scheme was announced by Sudanese Ambassador Al-Dirdiri Mubarak, who said the novel initiative came from Pacific Global Media Consultants, which will promote and market the scheme, while Saudi TriCare Company will manage and administer it.

The ambassador said there are more than half a million Sudanese expatriates in the Kingdom working in different sectors. While some already have insurance cover through the organizations in which they are employed, there are many others in the small and medium establishments that are not yet covered by the insurance scheme. This segment would be targeted under the scheme. He assured the embassy’s full cooperation for the success of the scheme.

Elaborating on the ambassador’s statement, Abdul Rahman Alamin, executive president of Pacific Global Media Consultants, said the Sudanese Embassy would play an important role in publicizing the scheme. “We’ll distribute our publicity material through the embassy. This way we would come to know who is in need of insurance cover.”

Spelling out the objective of the health care plan, Abdul Rahman told Arab News that since the medical insurance scheme would go through its second phase including all the cities in the Kingdom, besides Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, they would like to extend the insurance cover to those who are not yet covered. “We are targeting this segment of the Sudanese community by providing insurance cover at affordable cost.”

He said these parameters underlined the basis of the medical insurance plans worked out by Saudi TriCare Company.
