TRIVANDRUM, 2 January 2004 — Kerala Chief Minister A. K. Antony yesterday inaugurated the community interaction portal of Trivandrum City Police (www.tvmcitypolice.org), claimed to be the first of its kind in India.
An initiative of the Asian Development Bank (ADB)-funded Modernizing Government Program, the project provides simple cyber solutions to several problems for which one had to personally visit a police station. It also automates many citizen services, including processing of passport applications, foreigners’ registration and obtaining of no objection certificates.
“People can now register complaints, give suggestions and track information from their homes or anywhere. This will help police to ensure the participation of citizens in effectively communicating with them and to partner in crime prevention,” Kerala’s Director General of Police Hormis Tharakan said. There are separate modules for citizens to lodge complaints under categories and sub-categories such as public teasing of girls, anti-social activity, organized crimes, drug trafficking, travel problems, sexual harassment and extortion.
The online system is linked to all police stations in the city.
