NEW YORK, 7 January 2004 — Andrew Ference scored twice and added an assist and Jamie McLennan stopped 36 shots as the Calgary Flames blanked the New York Rangers 5-0 in National Hockey League play on Monday.
McLennan posted his fourth shutout of the season and second in the last four games, giving him 13 in his career, as he continues in place of the injured Miikka Kiprusoff.
Jarome Iginla added a goal and two assists for the Flames, who ended a three-game winless streak while winning on the road for the ninth time in 16 games.
Matthew Lombardi and Denis Gauthier scored the other goals for the Flames.
Jussi Markkanen and Mike Dunham split the game in goal for the Rangers, who remained out of an Eastern Conference playoff spot while slipping to just one game over .500 (16-15-4-3).
Maple Leafs 5 Penguins 0
In Pittsburgh, Trevor Kidd made 25 saves while replacing the injured Ed Belfour as the Toronto Maple Leafs blanked the lowly Penguins 5-0.
Kidd posted his first shutout since November 2001 in just his fourth game of the season.
Joe Nieuwendyk and Tie Domi both had a goal and an assist for the Leafs, while Aki Berg, Tomas Kaberle and Nathan Perrott scored the other Toronto goals.
Red Wings 6 Predators 0
In Detroit, Curtis Joseph made 26 saves for his second shutout of the season as the Red Wings mauled the Nashville Predators 6-0. Jason Woolley and Kris Draper both scored twice to support Joseph, who earned his 43rd career shutout. Nicklas Lidstrom and Ray Whitney both had a goal and an assist for the Wings, while Steve Yzerman added a pair of assists.
Devils 3 Oilers 2 (OT)
In East Rutherford, Patrik Elias scored 41 seconds into overtime, lifting the New Jersey Devils past the Edmonton Oilers 3-2.
Turner Stevenson and Sergei Brylin scored the other goals for the Devils, while Martin Brodeur made 33 saves in goal. Ethan Moreau and Raffi Torres scored the goals for Edmonton.
Blues 1 Wild 1 (OT)
In St. Louis, Andrei Zyuzin’s second period goal have the Minnesota Wild a 1-1 tie with the Blues. Dwayne Roloson made 22 saves in goal for the Wild, while Chris Osgood had 23 saves in the St. Louis net.
Sharks 2 Canucks 1
In Vancouver, Patrick Marleau scored with 38.6 seconds remaining to give the San Jose Sharks a 2-1 win over the Canucks. Vesa Toskala made 37 saves for the Sharks, now 7-1-1 in their last nine games. Scott Thornton scored the other San Jose goal.
Stars 2 Mighty Ducks 2 (OT)
In Anaheim, Sergei Fedorov’s goal with 10:01 to play gave the Mighty Ducks a 2-2 tie with the Dallas Stars. Steve Rucchin scored the other Anaheim goal. Jere Lehtinen and Scott Young scored for Dallas.
