JEDDAH, 10 January 2004 — An Indian Haji succumbed to her injuries yesterday after being involved in an accident by a private taxi in Madinah on Thursday. Tasmin, 45, from the northern Uttaranchal state and five others were hit by the taxi, according to Hifzur Rahman, consul press and information who is in charge of Indian Haj operations in Madinah.
While four others were given first aid and allowed to go, Tasmin and another man were admitted to the hospital. Tasmin died of her injuries while the man is recovering and is out of danger, Hifzur Rahman said.
Meanwhile, Haji Rahim Khan, at 132 years the oldest pilgrim, has returned to Makkah after spending 10 days in Madinah. The Indian mission sent him by a special taxi with a doctor in attendance to take care of him.
In all 28,000 Indian Haj pilgrims have so far visited Madinah.
