DALLAS, 11 January 2004 — The Indiana Pacers got 26 points from Ron Artest to extend their winning streak to seven games with a 92-80 upset of the Dallas Mavericks on Friday.

Indiana improved to an NBA-best 28-10, with 14 of those wins coming away from home, where teams traditionally struggle.

Dallas dropped to 16-3 at home.

Al Harrington and Jermaine O’Neal each notched 16 points for the Pacers, with Jamaal Tinsley getting 11 more to go with his 12 assists. Dirk Nowitzki led Dallas with 20 points, 15 of them before the break.

Antawn Jamison added 19 points, with 7-6 center Shawn Bradley notching a season-high 12 on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting. It was the fewest points scored by the Mavericks at the American Airlines Center this season.

In Philadelphia, Glenn Robinson had the hot hand early, notching 24 first-half points to carry the 76ers to a 97-81 win over the New Jersey Nets. Robinson finished with a season-high 26 points, with Allen Iverson adding 17 while dishing out 11 assists. Richard Jefferson topped New Jersey with 20 points.

The Nets’ Jason Kidd, coming off consecutive 30-point games, scored just 10 points before leaving with a sprained finger.

In Boston, Paul Pierce racked up 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Celtics thumped the Cleveland Cavaliers 107-82, leaving them a woeful 2-17 on the road. Pierce also dished out eight assists, two shy of a triple-double.

Rookie phenomenon LeBron James paced the Cavs with 19 points.

In Toronto, Elton Brand notched 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to carry the Los Angeles Clippers to a 78-68 win over the Raptors, who left the court to the jeers of the crowd. Jalen Rose paced Toronto with 26 points, with Vince Carter adding 12 and 10 rebounds.

In Orlando, Tracy McGrady poured in 35 points as the Magic snapped a six-game losing streak with a 103-92 win over the Washington Wizards. Larry Hughes counted 26 points to lead the Wizards, who managed a mere 25 points at the break, just six more than the all-time mark for first-half futility.

In New Orleans, the defending champions San Antonio Spurs won for the 16th time in 17 games, defeating the hosts Hornets, 94-84. Tim Duncan and Bruce Bowen had 15 points apiece to pace San Antonio, with Hedo Turkoglu adding 13. Baron Davis topped the Hornets with 19 points despite making just two of his nine three-point tries.

In Milwaukee, a 33-15 second quarter proved the difference as the Bucks held on to defeat the Miami Heat 103-94 for their fifth straight victory. Toni Kukoc paced the Bucks with 24 points, also grabbing 14 rebounds. Lamar Odom had 22 points and 15 boards for the Heat, who dropped their 15th game away from home.

In Chicago, the Portland Trail Blazers won for just the second time on the road this season, outdoing the lowly Bulls 87-78.

Derek Anderson scored 19 points to pace Portland, which was missing Rasheed Wallace, who is nursing a sprained left ankle. Jamal Crawford notched 21 points to lead the Bulls, who are now just 6-13 at home.

In Denver, teenage sensation Carmelo Anthony poured in 27 points and Brazilian-born Nene Hilario added 25 more as the Nuggets dumped the Utah Jazz 106-96.

Six of the Jazz were in double figures, with guard DeShawn Stevenson best of the bunch with 19 points.

In Los Angeles, the Lakers snapped a four-game losing skid in style, handing the Atlanta Hawks their second-biggest loss in a 113-67 drubbing.

Kobe Bryant and Stanislav Medvedenko were top scorers for the Lakers, now 16-2 at home, each of them getting 26 points.

Stephen Jackson had 13 points to top the Hawks, who trailed 34-7 after a quarter.

In Phoenix, Sacramento romped to a 113-93 victory over the Suns, with three Kings getting 24 or more points. Peja Stojakovic led the way with 29 points, with Mike Bibby getting 25 and Bobby Jackson 24.

In Seattle, Rashard Lewis poured in 26 points to help the SuperSonics to a narrow 122-116 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.

James Posey kept Memphis close with 25 points.
