MANILA, 13 January 2004 — Principals and school administrators of an estimated 90 Filipino schools overseas will be converging in Bahrain later this week to hold a systematic review of the implementation of the 2002 Basic Education Curriculum.
The two-day conference will be conducted by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). The CFO manages all Filipino schools overseas.
CFO Executive Director Jose Molano Jr. told Arab News that the event, with the theme “Achieving Global Competitiveness Through Curriculum Reform,” will involve structured consultations between the CFO panel and the school administrators.
The conference-workshop will work along harnessing the potentials and creativeness of teachers in the delivery of educational services,” Molano said.
He said the conference on Jan. 15-16 will also provide a venue for exchanging views through parallel workshops for teachers and administrators.
This will be the third such conference. The second one was held in Manila in April 2002 and was attended by 82 representatives from 25 overseas schools.
All 33 Philippine schools overseas follow the Basic Education Curriculum.
These schools were established for OFW dependents to facilitate their integration into the country’s educational system on their return to the country.
