ABHA, 21 January 2004 — A thief in Abha had a late stirring of conscience and returned the goods he had stolen with an apology. Ali Asiri, a Saudi citizen from Abha, received a strange phone call from the thief who had spirited his car away the previous month. The thief tendered an apology for the theft and told him where he could find the vehicle, Al-Watan reported. Asiri’s car had been stolen on the fifth day of Eid from outside a mosque. He had reported the theft to police, but after more than one month of queries had given up all hope of finding it. It was just as he was about to get a new set of wheels that he received the call. Asiri informed the police and, lo and behold, the car was there.
