The Davis Cup first-round between Australia and Sweden after Australian Open will compete for attention with a major golf event to be held the same weekend next month. Tennis Australia officials have said that they won’t modify their playing schedule in Adelaide in order to suit the whims of the Heineken Open golf, which may be struggling to secure any television time. Normally, there would not be a clash, with Davis Cup venues constantly changing each year. But this year’s clash Feb. 6-8 is likely to leave golf on in the bunker.
The Seven Network has rights to both events. While golf wants the tennis to set their matches for late in the day, officials from the other sport say that can’t be done.
In a sport where agents and money men call many of the shots, tennis officials are refusing to budge from their traditional daytime schedule at Memorial Drive.
Reyes Ready to Take a Bullet for His Mate Agassi
Las Vegas hard-man Gil Reyes says he would take a bullet for his mate, Andre Agassi. The former nightclub bouncer and now fitness trainer for 14 years to the evergreen Agassi revealed his devotion to the world No. 4: “If someone approached me and said, ‘Listen, I want to hire you to take a bullet for somebody’, I’d say ‘you’ve got the wrong guy’,” Reyes told Australian media.
“But if a friend came to me, especially a dear, close friend like Andre, and said he was in danger, he was scared for his life, and would you help me, the answer would be automatically yes.”
