RIYADH, 26 January 2004 — Executive Director Dr. Jose Z. Molano of the Commission on Overseas Filipinos (COF) made ocular inspections of two schools here last week as part of their application for accreditation with the Department of Education (DepEd).
The two schools are Riyadh International School (RIS) and Millenium International School (MIS). Molano also dropped by at the Second Philippine International School (SPIS) in Riyadh, which had earlier been accredited with the DepEd.
“The ocular inspection of our school went smoothly, with the director impressed after seeing our laboratory, library, the rooms and the playground for the children,” Ms. Elsie Torreno said.
Molano also made a tour of the classrooms, facilities of the nearby Millenium International School (MIS).
She said that the visit could speed up the accreditation and bolstered the confidence of students and parents in RIS.
She added that “sooner or later we will be in the league of other schools which have already been accredited by the DepEd”
Ms. Torreno also aid that with the accreditation of RIS, it will use the curriculum used in the Philippines as prescribed by the DepEd. That means that all subjects taken by a student at the RIS will be automatically validated if and when he or she will enroll in any school in the Philippines.
“Our accreditation is also necessary in preparation for starting Grades 11 and 12 at RIS. In that way, we would be in a better position to render service to the Filipino community,” Ms. Torreno said.
After Riyadh, Molano proceeded to Dubai as part of his swing in the region regarding applications for DepEd accreditation from Philippine schools overseas.
