DHAHRAN, 26 January 2004 — Saudi Aramco has now told its contractors to Saudize and has taken steps to guarantee that the process is carried out.
The oil company has always been considered a role-model for the Saudization program and in order to achieve its target within the company, it has launched hundreds of programs.
Although Saudi Aramco has not fixed any quota of Saudi employees for its contractors, it strongly encourages Saudization. The company itself has 100 percent Saudis at the management level and nearly 100 percent in supervisory staff.
In order to inform its contractors, the company recently organized a forum on Contractor Employee Saudization which was attended by more than 160 Saudi companies.
Abdul Salam A. Yousef of Engineering and Operations Services said: “We are looking for real partnerships and long-lasting relationships. We want to make sure these contractors know we are serious about it. It is not us and them: It is the country.”
During the forum, from the more than 600 businessmen attending, a group was created to promote Saudization.
The members of this Saudization Steering Committee were selected from different types of contractor businesses. The committee will meet every week to help resolve the challenges Saudization presents and also to contribute to the creation of new policies and initiatives by Saudi Aramco.
