KUWAIT CITY, 29 January 2004 — Kuwait has banned the imports poultry or poultry products from the Indian continent and East Asia because of the outbreak of bird flu the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) and newspapers reported yesterday.
World Health Organization confirmation of bird flu cases in some Asian countries prompted the ban, the deputy chairman of the Food Safety Committee of Kuwait’s municipality, Khaled Al-Zamoul said.
The ban applies to all poultry, poultry products, and eggs fresh and frozen, the official said.
The avian flu has killed fewer than a dozen humans in Thailand and Vietnam.
