BAHA, 29 January 2004 — Authorities have discovered the theft of SR1.5 million from a local bank, Al-Madinah daily reported. A senior bank official confessed to having embezzled the money even though he had reported a bank robbery. He disconnected the electricity, the monitoring cameras and the alarm system and while the security guards reconnected the systems, he removed the money and injured himself with a sharp tool. When the guards had finished, the bank official claimed that armed robbers had assaulted him and stolen the money.
