JEDDAH, 30 January 2004 — Dart Vader 6 scored a 13-7 drubbing of top seed TMI-JWT dart team to take a 1-0 lead in their best of three championship series held this Friday at the Orient Pearl Seafood Restaurant.
Riding high on their semifinal conquest of a tough Al Jazzar dart team, the Dart Vader team showed that they are ripe for the picking to win the coveted Inter-Commercial League crown.
In the ‘1001’ four-man team event, Dart Vader fielded Manny Necesito, Chris Amores, Kelly Panalandang and Onoy Villamin against TMI’s Roland Tabing, Henry Burac, Eddie Tuico and Jun Jison. Necesito gave Dart Vader the initial 3-0 lead with a close out of Double 16.
In the singles event, Burac rallied TMI with a 2-1 decision win over Rey Formanes while Tabing followed with another 2-0 win against Necesito to tie the count at 4-all. In the third match, Amores’ made short work of TMI’s Ruel Gabao with a similar 2-0 victory to put Dart Vader again on top 6-4. TMI’s Fred Lumontad scored a 2-1 split over Panalandang in the 4th game to cut the gap at 6-7. In the penultimate leg, Dart Vader’s Villamin scored another 2-0 shutout of TMI’s Pancho Cuevas to pad Dart Vader’s lead anew to 9-6. In the crucial final singles’ matchup, TMI’s Jison missed a hatful of chances as he allowed Dart Vader’s Eddie Paduganan to score a come-from-behind 2-1 decision to give Dart Vader an insurmountable 11-7 lead going into the doubles’ event.
Needing to win only one of out three matches in the doubles’ event, Dart Vader fielded their scoring juggernaut of Formanes and Amores in the first match to challenge TMI’s Tabing/Gabao tandem. Formanes uncorked a backbreaking score of Ton40 in his opening salvo followed by lines of 45-46-82 while Amores followed suit with lines of 45-50-68 and a stunning Ton80 to break the morale of TMI’s Tabing/Gabao duo that could only submit lines of 81-66-15-31-11-22-45-26-60. Formanes sealed the win for Dart Vader with a towering shutout of 45 via single 13 — double 16 for a 26 darts finish of a 701 doubles’ game.
