MANAMA, 1 February 2004 — Two Saudi men visiting Bahrain escaped injury when their Chevrolet Suburban collided with a Caprice that failed to stop at a red light in Manama early yesterday morning.
Driver Aziz Saeed Al-Omran, aged 45, and his passenger Hassan Ali, aged 41, were at a traffic light when the Caprice that was driven by a Bahraini hit the front of their car before it hit a lamppost at 3 a.m.
The force of the impact caused the lamppost to fall on the Caprice but the driver escaped without injury.
Al-Omran told Arab News on the scene that the traffic signal had just turned green when the accident occurred. “The signal had just turned green on our side and I was about to turn when his car collided with us,” he said. “I am glad that none of us have been injured in the accident”.
The Bahraini driver who was not identified was taken into police custody as the investigation continues.
Emergency repair crews took about an hour to restore power in the area.
