JEDDAH, 6 February 2004 — Police arrested a Saudi man who tried to kidnap his wife while she was attempting to escape from him with her four children in a hired car, Okaz Arabic daily reported yesterday. The paper said the woman was forced to run away as a result of problems with her husband.
The man stopped the car and told the children to get into his car. He told his wife to get in but she refused. He pushed the Asian cab driver aside and drove off with his wife, to the surprise of passers-by.
The police stopped the man near Saudi Arabian Airlines building in Khalediyah and took him to Al-Salama police station. The children were handed over to their mother.
Body in Garbage Bag
Police have recovered the body of man found in a garbage bag close to the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah’ Rehab district here on Wednesday. They believe the deceased to be from Southeast Asia.
“The body was found in front of a villa opposite the consulate,” a report carried by Al-Madinah daily yesterday said.
Police recovered the body after being informed by consulate guards.
Turki Al-Ghamdi, owner of the villa, said he was surprised to see security officials checking a body in front of his house. Brig. Saleh Al-Olayan, director of Jeddah police, said the body had not been identified.
However, he thought the dead man “could be a Southeast Asian overstayer,” he said, adding that there were no suspicious circumstances.
Indonesian consulate staff were unable to comment.
In a separate incident, police found an African woman’s body near a restaurant in Mina and took it to King Faisal Specialist Hospital mortuary in Jeddah, Al-Madinah reported.
Doctors confirmed that the woman had died of natural causes. However, police have launched an investigation into the woman’s identity.
Meanwhile, locals discovered a 20-year-old Saudi youth in a garbage can. They thought that he was dead but doctors said he fell unconscious after overdosing on drugs, the paper said.
