DAMMAM, 7 February 2004 — The International Indian School (IISD) two-day workshop on the latest trends in English Language Teaching (ELT) was held recently. Paul Gunashekhar, professor of Materials Development at the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL), Hyderabad, India was the resource person.

Prof. Gunashekhar is the administrative coordinator for National English Language Testing Service and has authored, co-authored and edited about 150 English teaching books for national agencies such as NCERT, CBSE, NIOS and IGNOU.

The workshop included discussions of materials in the textbooks as well as live demonstrations. Prof. Gunashekhar also demonstrated the methods by which language skills, through listening, speaking, reading and writing, could be improved and perfected.

IIS Dammam Director and Principal Mohammad Anwar expressed satisfaction with the two-day event. He said more such workshops would be organized. During his welcome address, Anwar said that the workshop was made possible by efforts of the Oxford University Press and Chairman Koya Anachirayil.
