RIYADH, 18 February 2004 — Children from Saudi Arabia will get an opportunity to win trips to attend the Olympic Games 2004 as part of a community initiative launched by Visa International in partnership with Banque Saudi Fransi, Riyad Bank, Samba, Saudi Hollandi Bank and House of Artists, which functions under the General Presidency of Youth Welfare (GPYW).
Kamran Siddiqi, general manager for Visa International (Middle East), yesterday told a press conference the Kingdom joined 15 other countries from around the world to host a countrywide art competition among children, leading to the award of sponsored trips to Athens Olympic Games with their parents.
“More than 175 young artists from 35 countries have attended the Olympic Games as guests of Visa so far,” he said.
The art contest will run in Saudi Arabia from Feb. 17 through March 31 and is open to all children between the ages of nine and 13 years. This year 30 children from 16 countries will win trips to the Athens 2004 Olympic Games and will be given the opportunity to support their country at the world’s greatest sporting event. Of these 30, five will be winners from the Saudi competition, each accompanied by a parent or guardian.
