MANAMA, 19 February 2004 — Police have arrested three Saudis, two men and a woman, after they scammed three jewelry shops in Muharraq, Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.
The three were arrested after a fight with a shopowner who suspected that they were trying to replace gold jewelry in a display with silver.
Police arrested the three and at the police station found eight white gold rings in their possession.
The three had scammed three shops in the area earlier by asking to see white gold rings and, while the shopkeepers were distracted, switching them with silver ones.
All three appeared in front of the public prosecutor yesterday.

A total of 1,006,675 travelers used the King Fahd Causeway this January compared with 758,393 last year, said the General Directorate of Nationality, Passports and Residence. The jump represents a 33 percent increase.
According to the directorate, a total of 1,232,001 traveled to and from Bahrain last month.
A total of 608,337 entered Bahrain through the various entry points while 623,664 departed in January, with 15,327 more travelers leaving Bahrain then traveling to it in January.
According to the directorate, 225,326 travelers arrived through Bahrain International Airport and the seaports compared with 188,670 in January 2003, up 19 percent with an increase by 36,656 travelers.
