RIYADH, 20 February 2004 — Representation of non-resident Indians in the Upper House of Parliament and housing facilities for NRIs will be discussed at the second NRIs convention and festival to be held in Hyderabad from July 30 to August 1.
More than 4,000 NRIs from all parts of the Gulf and the United States are expected to attend the convention. Last year, the convention attracted some 2,000 NRIs from the Gulf.
The event is being organized by the Riyadh-based Indians Doctors, Engineers, Architects and Accountants Society (IDEAS ) in cooperation with theTourism and Culture Department of Andhra Pradesh. Topics to be discussed include common problems of NRIs such as housing facilities, welfare schemes, voting rights and children’s higher education, said Syed Taquiddin, secretary of the IDEAS.
Khaja Anwar , founder director of IDEAS, said that the organization plans to honor 10 key personalities who have rendered distinguished services toward nation building. The selection will be made from among ministers, NRIs, entrepreneurs, scientists, social workers, politicians and students.
