RIYADH, 20 February 2004 — King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSH) has been chosen to be the first Saudi organization accredited to the American Academy of Continuing Medical Education (AACME), said Dr. Abdullah Al-Arifi, KFSH’s Associate Executive Director of Continuing Medical Education, yesterday.
Dr. Al-Arifi said: “Among 76 organizations evaluated in the Middle East, KFSH received the highest recognition. It is essentially an international testimony to KFSH’s standards and commitment to serving the medical community of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East.”
The director added that KFSH is the only organization in the Middle East granted AACME accreditation with a high recommendation.
AACME, an international body providing accreditation to nearly 17,000 health care organizations around the world, sets high standards in CME and ensures continuous improvement of CME quality and delivery.
AACME pursues quality, accountability and a commitment to excellence, while also attracting the best health care professionals, researchers and funding sources from around the world, according to a press statement.
Meanwhile, the Saudi Ophthalmological Society announced it will hold a conference on the latest developments in ophthalmic practice and surgery with special reference to refractive surgery, vitreoretinal and pediatric ophthalmology, prevention of blindness and optometry.
The event, to take place on March 7, will be attended by Prince Abdul Aziz ibn Ahmed, president of the Saudi Ophthalmological Society, and Dr. Hamad Al-Manie, minister of health.
A group of professors and experts from the United States, Britain and Belgium will participate in the scientific meeting.
The program will consist of scientific sessions, workshops, and video and poster presentations.
This conference represents the combined meeting of the 17th annual scientific session of the Saudi Ophthalmological Society and the 21st annual symposium of the King Khaled Specialist Eye Hospital.
