TRIVANDRUM, 22 February 2004 — Kerala’s opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) yesterday announced its candidates for all the 20 seats from the southern state for the impending elections to Lok Sabha.
In the capital constituency of Trivandrum, former state chief minister and veteran Communist Party leader P.K. Vasudevan Nair is pitted against the federal junior minister for defense O. Rajagopal of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress party’s sitting MP V.S. Siva Kumar.
Janata Dal (Secular) state president and former federal minister M.P. Veerendra Kumar, who is also the president of Indian Newspaper Society (INS) and chairman of Press Trust of India (PTI), is contesting from Calicut constituency that he represented earlier.
Congress party and BJP are yet to finalize their candidates for the seat represented by Kerala power minister K. Muraleedharan in the dissolved Lok Sabha.
The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) also decided to field former minister T.K. Hamza from the Muslim League bastion of Mancherry.
