RIYADH, 26 February 2004 — Poland’s President Aleksander Kwasniewski will visit the Kingdom soon, the country’s new ambassador said on Tuesday.
“The visit was finalized during Friday’s visit of Foreign Minister Saud Al-Faisal to Warsaw,” Ambassador Adam Kulach said. He described the visit as historic. It was the first high-level visit to Poland by a member of the Saudi royal family.
The ambassador said that he intends to strengthen the understanding between the two countries through an exchange of high-level visits. Besides cooperation in economic, cultural and scientific areas, he has set his sights on cooperation in tourism and education.
“There are several universities in Poland that could help Saudi students to pursue their postgraduate studies, and they could provide an ideal platform for an exchange of ideas between intellectuals of the two countries,” he said.
He said he plans to attract Saudi investors to Poland, which is poised for entry into the enlarged European Union.
Arrangements are being made by the embassy with the Saudi government to initiate top-level visits of Prince Sultan, second deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation, and the ministers of petroleum and mineral resources and economy and planning.
The two countries hope to sign a series of agreements on the avoidance of double taxation, investment protection, airlinks and combating terrorism.
Polish exports to the Kingdom are valued at $67.5 million while its imports of petrochemicals, sheepskin and carpets from the Kingdom are estimated at $29.5 million. Exports include, steel, construction materials, glass, food and agricultural products, chemical and rubber products and electronics.
