ALKHOBAR, 27 February 2004 — A Saudi drowned after his car ran out of gas on the Bahraini side of the King Fahd Causeway. Sami Al-Rashid Al-Hameed, 26, fell in the water while attempting to cross the gap separating the two lanes at the top of bridge in the early hours of yesterday morning.

An intensive search by the Coast Guard using boats and a Ministry of Interior helicopter discovered him floating 300 meters south of the bridge a few hours later.

Coast Guard boats retrieved the body and transferred it to the Salmanyia Medical Complex morgue where an autopsy was performed.

His body will be handed over to his family today. Sources told Arab News that Hameed appears to have tried to jump to the other side in order to get gas for his car when the incident occurred.
