JEDDAH, 27 February 2004 — Otis, KAIA, Baber Toor & Attar Travels qualified for the semifinals of Division II Championships sponsored by SGB Baroom and organized By Jeddah Cricket League (JCL). Publicis Graphics & Saudi Majestic Will clash for the Consolation Cup Next Week.

Otis Beat Rabie Foods

Otis batted first and scored a valuable 160 for 8 wickets in their allotted 18 over at the Kanoo ground. Sadathulla scored 49 runs with 4 hits to the fence. Sami gave him good support at the start but was run out at 10, but Aslam filled the breach and along with Sadath put on 80 runs, before falling for 33. Arshad then pitched in with 25 runs as Hamza was the pick of the bowler taking 3 for 18 in 3 overs, Adil and Heran took a wicket each for 22 & 45 run respectively.

Rabie Foods failed to negotiate both the speed & spin bowling of Otis and were bundled out for 119, with only Adil (30) and Yasir (36) offering fight. Aslam took 4 wickets for 20 runs, Akbar 2 for 25 and veteran Muhammad Wajid, with his magical off spinners, took 2 for 22 runs to lead Otis to 41 runs victory.

KAIA Outplays Saliheen

KAIA piled up huge 239 for 3 wickets in 20 overs against Saliheen, with Tahir smashing 110 runs (14 fours and 6 mighty sixes). He got good support from Ghufran, who made a quick 29 runs in 17 balls, M. Zamin 64 (4 sixes and 5 four) even Shoeb (16 — a six and a four). Tahir and Ghufran had a 81 runs stand while Tahir shared with Zamin 136 runs. Saliheen started disastrously by losing two quick wickets without any run on the board, and wickets fell at regular intervals. Only Kashif 26 and Irfan 23 resisted as Saliheen were held to 128 for 6 wkts in 20 overs. Losenta with 3 wickets & M. Zamin 2 stareed in KAIA’s 111 runs win.

Babar Toor Rip SGI

SGI batted first and made 156 for 5 wickets. Majeed and Abdul Rab hammered 62 & 54 respectively while putting on 118. Their exit saw Babar Toor bowlers regain control and restricted the target. Shazad bowled well and took 3 for 29 runs, as Babar Toor reached the target in 16.5 overs and won by 7 wickets. Ghayoor hit a magnificent unbeaten 87 inclusive of 9 fours and a six with contributions coming from Hafiz 17, Irfan 27, Arif 21 runs.

Attar Travels Smash GCI

Attar Travels batting first scored a respectable total of 184 for 3. Shamim was unlucky to be run out on 11, but Rayees, the in form batsman of Attar, hit fine century of the day.

He blasted 111 runs and shared a 172-run partnership with Amaan, the latter scoring a quick 33 not out. Sadiq chipped in with 12 with Faisal of GCI taking 2 for 36 runs.

GCI were bundled out for 139 runs with Zahid making 49, Imran 22, Faisal 20 and Shoukath 15 as Attar posted a 45 runs win. Amaan took four for 37 and Rayees took 2 for 23.

Division II Consolation Cup

Hero Rangers scored a moderate 129 for 9 in 18 overs against their opponents Publicis Graphics. Only Ifteqar 28, Jaya Kumar 36 could withstand the onslaught of the Graphics bowlers. Zaheer took 5 for 30 runs and Abdullah 2 for 28. Publicis Graphics scored the required runs in 16.2 over for the loss of 5 wickets.

Khusro topscored with 43. Sameer 22 and Najeeb 24 too contributed. Baseer, Furkhan, Nadeem and Jaya Kumar picked up one wicket each. Graphics won the match by 5 wickets.

Talha Optics scored 122 all out in 17 overs against Saudi Majestic. Shafique 23 and Arif 38 played well while wickets fell regularly. for Saudi Majestic Yousuf & Saleem Butt took three wickets each for 23 & 24 runs respectively, while Naeem 2 for 10 and Shahid 1 for 30 lent support.

Saudi Majestic lost their opener Arif for 8 runs when the total was 22. Zahid 33, Zubair 34 not out and Naeem 26 not out then steered their side to victory in 12.1 overs to win the match by 8 wickets comfortably. Shafique & Saeed took a wicket each for Talha Optics.

NOTE: Out of 13 teams of Division II, eight teams participated for the knock out stage to vie for winners and runners cup while four teams participated for the consolation cup.

The International Indian School Jeddah teams did not participate in the Consolation cup as the Annual Exams are starting from March 1.
