JEDDAH, 28 February 2004 — Police here foiled a large forgery operation and seized a number of fake visas due to be sold in a number of Asian countries, Al-Eqtisadiah business daily, a sister publication of Arab News, reported.

The forgers had disguised themselves as Saudis working in a construction company to cover up the operation. Officers of the anti-forgery department raided the hideout of the forgers and arrested two of them with eight fake visas. The black market price of each visa, according to confessions by the forgers, was SR5,000. The passport department estimates the total black market in visas at SR1 million.
