JEDDAH, 29 February 2004 — A car accident claimed the lives of three men and injured a fourth on Madinah Road early Saturday morning.

The car occupied by four Turkish immigrants was traveling at high speed when the driver lost control and smashed into the concrete barrier near Kubri Murraba. All victims were taken to King Fahd Hospital.

According to police, the car was going at high speed when traffic stalled ahead. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the driver lost control of the late-model blue sedan, its make and model unrecognizable after the crash.

Relatives of the victims say they were shocked at the degree of facial injuries the passengers received as a result of the crash. The brother of one of the victims told Al-Madinah newspaper at the hospital that he had cautioned his brother repeatedly.

“I warned my brother several times about speeding and urged him to drive more carefully but he wouldn’t listen. This time he learned his lesson the hard way,” he told the paper.

The collision caused a large backup of traffic on Madinah Road for over an hour.
