RIYADH, 2 March 2004 — Pakistan’s Ambassador Abdul Aziz Mirza told members of the Pakistani community here Islamabad would never compromise on the issue of Kashmir and the talks in Islamabad were a prelude to a composite dialogue between the two countries.
Speaking at a function to mark the Kashmir Solidarity Day, the ambassador said it was heartening that Indian and Pakistan officials were holding talks to sort out their disputes and said he believed the talks would lead to a durable peace in the region. The ambassador, however, said, Pakistan would continue to provide diplomatic support to Kashmiris. He said Islamabad would also see to it that the balance of power in the region is not disturbed. It will continue to ensure it possesses a credible deterrent to any aggression.
Ambassador Mirza said: “We support the struggle of the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their right to self-determination.”
