RIYADH, 2 March 2004 — Five Saudi university students received the first PLUS scholarships of the United States at a ceremony held at the American Embassy on Saturday. US Ambassador James C. Oberwetter awarded the scholarships.
The recipients are Abdulmajeed Al-Bahrani of Hassa, Ahmed Al-Ghamdi of Riyadh, Mogren Al-Dalilah of Riyadh, Abdulkareem Al-Enazi of Qurayat and Mansour Al-Bogami of Jeddah.
The scholarships allow students to go to the United States to finish their undergraduate degrees after two years of study in their home countries. Four of the Saudi winners are now students at King Saud University in Riyadh and a fifth is from King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah. The students competed with other university students from throughout the Arab world to win the scholarships, which are being provided by the Partnership for Learning program, a US government program designed to support education in the Middle East.
