JEDDAH, 3 March 2004 — The Jeddah Cricket League is hosting an exhibition match between India and Sri Lanka with Air-India sponsoring the event to be played tomorrow.
This festival match follows the last one played between the Consul General of India XI and Hyderabad Overseas Association XI. The Consul Generals of both the nations will be leading their respective teams in the match that will begin at 1.00 p.m.
Sadafco will provide a range of their products to the spectators. SGB Baroom will be providing shade and scaffolding for the match.
The match will be played under new exciting rules: It will be a 18-overs-a-side match; a batsman will not play more than 18 balls; If all 10 players of a side gets out before the completion of 18 overs, the 12th, 13th 14th.... Batsmen will be allowed to bat until the quota is completed; A maximum of 2 overs per bowler; No bouncers!
Consul Generals of cricket playing countries, along with other dignitaries have been invited to the event. The Consul General of Pakistan has already accepted the invitation to attend.
Mazharullah, Air-India manager, said it was great for the carrier to participate in a community event and will be also playing.
Match-winning Captain of the last Festival match, Syed Akbaruddin, India’s consul general, said the event should be another fun-filled event, and the result of the match is purely academic.
