JEDDAH, 4 March 2004 — Dr. Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Al-Suwail has been appointed by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd as governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC).
King Fahd also appointed Fuhaid ibn Fahd Al-Sharief governor of the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), which runs 30 desalination plants on both the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea.
Both appointments were made on the recommendation of Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard.
Thanking the king and the crown prince for his appointment, Al-Sharief emphasized the progress made by the SWCC over the past years. Saudi Arabia is now the world’s largest producer of desalinated water, with a daily output of over 600 million gallons.
Born in Madinah, Al-Sharief received his bachelor’s degree from King Saud University in Riyadh and his master’s degree in economics from an American university.
He has held several important positions including assistant deputy minister of industry and electricity for financial and administrative affairs, deputy governor of the General Electricity Organization and deputy governor of SAGIA. He is a member of the privatization committee at the Supreme Economic Council.
