MULTAN, 8 March 2004 — The Customs, Sales Tax and Central Excise Collectorate has blacklisted 52 textile and spinning mills, many owned by influential people, for non-payment of 577.4 million rupees in sales taxes on cotton lint purchased from ginners. The owners of these blacklisted mills include former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Federal Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat, Federal Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar Khan, and some former federal ministers and leaders of the Pakistan People’s Party.
