KUWAIT CITY, 8 March 2004 — Buoyed by impressive successes in Jordan and Bahrain, Kuwait’s Mobile Telecommunications Co. (MTC) is eyeing the lucrative Saudi market set to open up to competition later this year, its director general said yesterday. “We are fiercely competing to win a mobile license in Saudi Arabia ... with investments worth $1.5 billion,” Saad Al-Barrak told a news conference. MTC is competing for the license as part of a consortium in which it owns 40 percent and its Saudi partners an equal share, while the remaining 20 percent will be floated on the stock market, he said.
