RIYADH, 10 March 2004 — The Saudi Arabian National Recruiting Committee signed a protocol with two umbrella organizations of the 200 foreign recruiting agents in Indonesia to provide training for domestic workers. Jakarta-based Abjat and IDEA agreed to offer a comprehensive orientation program.
The bilateral talks on recruitment procedures were chaired by Saudi Arabian National Recruiting Committee Chairman Walid Al-Suweidan at the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
The Indonesian team was part of the visiting ministerial delegation led by Indonesian Minister of Manpower Jacob Nuwa Wea. “After a lengthy discussion, the two parties have agreed that trained domestic workers will be able to adapt themselves to suit the customs, practices and culture in Saudi homes,” he said.
The minister added that some simple problems are magnified by the fact that maids know nothing about Saudi society.
Nuwa Wea had earlier met with Labor Minister Ali Al-Namlah to hammer out an agreement for the fair treatment of Indonesian domestic workers, in turn promising to improve the recruitment process in Indonesia.
