RIYADH, 13 March 2004 — A Saudi businessman has bought a giant all-terrain mobile crane for a record SR6 million.

“Iraq’s construction market is booming. My heavy-duty crane will help me land reconstruction projects in Iraq,” Abdullah Al-Hedaithy told Arab News. Al-Hedaithy said he would use his contacts in the Gulf to lease out the crane.

As of March 5, Bechtel had awarded 143 subcontracts to 113 Iraqi companies, out of a total of 208 subcontracts for services. So far, over 10,000 companies from 100 countries have registered on Bechtel’s Supplier and Contractor portal.
