JEDDAH, 13 March 2004 — The rate of women smoking cigarettes and shishas in the Kingdom has risen to 15 percent, a recent survey showed, most of them in the major cities of Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam.
The survey, which was conducted by clinics that help smokers to quit, said many women became smokers after imitating their parents or friends. Smoking has been linked to some 25 diseases including lung cancer.
