HAIL, 16 March 2004 — The phenomenon of buying and selling in girls’ schools has taken on a new dimension in many girls’ schools in Hail. The school principals allow women selling ghee and locusts on the premises, Madinah reported. Many teachers have been observed leaving the schools with bags of locusts and other items bought while they were at work. Parents have protested to the Ministry of Education, demanding the enforcement of the ban on selling inside schools. They say the schools have become markets instead of educational institutions.
